Andrew College Athletics Student-Athlete Spotlight: Nic Sloane
CUTHBERT, Ga - Hailing from Citrus County, Fla., Nicholas Sloane is the premier example of what it means to be a student-athlete and a Fighting Tiger.
Sloane is majoring in aerospace engineering and hopes to work for companies such as Lockheed Martin or Boeing. His academic success matches his ambition, as he currently holds a 3.94 GPA.
On the diamond, Sloane is a sophomore right-handed pitcher who has emerged as the clear-cut ace for this year's Fighting Tigers baseball team. Through nine starts and 50.2 innings pitched, he leads the team with a 4.97 ERA, a 2.05 WHIP and 44 strikeouts on the season.
Among his many highlights, he mentioned his game against Gordon as his favorite memory while playing at Hord Field. On March 26 against Gordon State, Head Coach Adam Biss called on Sloane to close out the final two innings. Sloane picked up his fourth win and finished the game allowing just three hits with two strikeouts en route to the 12-11 victory in extra innings. He followed up his clutch performance with a seven-inning complete game masterpiece as he allowed just seven hits, three runs and tied his season-high with six strikeouts while picking up his second consecutive win.
Over his two years at Andrew College, Sloane has built lasting relationships that extend beyond the field. Through his love of sports, fishing and golf, he and the Cut Boys will surely have more memories to make as he continues his journey on and off the field.
"Make sure you value all of the friends that you make here, and always chase a dream even if you fail," said Sloane.
Andrew College is a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I school located in Cuthbert, Georgia.
