Andrew College Baseball Splits Monday's Doubleheader against Thomas University
CUTHBERT, Ga - In Monday's doubleheader against Thomas University, Andrew College once again split the series, falling in Game 1, 6-5, before taking Game 2 in dominant fashion with an 11-1 victory through five innings of play.
Game 1
The Fighting Tigers struggled early in Game 1, giving up three runs to allow the Night Hawks to jump out to a 3-0 lead. However, in the bottom of the third, 1B Tyler Walling launched a two-run homer for his first long ball of the season, cutting the Thomas lead to one, 3-2.
Unfortunately, the Night Hawks' offense continued to produce, scoring two unanswered runs heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
With their window closing, the Fighting Tigers stepped up to the plate, scoring three runs in the sixth to tie the game. However, miscues and timely hits allowed the Night Hawks to take a one-run lead in the seventh and secure the victory.
Game 2
Heading into Game 2, the Tigers could not afford to let another winnable matchup slip away. In the bottom of the first, 3B Cameron Kenney smacked an RBI double into the gap to give Andrew an early lead. The hit marked his fourth double of the season and sixth extra-base hit of the year.
Game 2 also saw new faces make an impact, including 1B Kai Huber. Typically lined up at first base, Huber got the nod to start at second. Along with providing solid defense up the middle, Huber extended the Tigers' lead with a two-out, bases-loaded RBI double to clear the bases and give Andrew a 4-1 advantage.
Following Huber's timely knock, Andrew College went on to score 10 unanswered runs en route to the 11-1 victory.
Tuesday, Feb. 10 vs. Wallace Community College-Dothan Game Preview
Despite closing Monday night with a win, the Tigers would have preferred to secure the sweep. Regardless, the Fighting Tigers return to action Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader against Wallace Community College-Dothan.
This is the second meeting between these two teams in the past five days and will mark the second double-header in that span. In their first meeting on Feb. 6, Andrew College split the series winning game 1,12-2, through six innings and falling in game 2 despite a late comeback to a score of 11-9, through eight innings.
First pitch for Tuesday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Andrew College is a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I school located in Cuthbert, Georgia. The Fighting Tigers sponsor 14 sports and compete in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. Andrew College will move to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, effective July 1, 2026.
