The Fighting Tigers Split Doubleheader Versus East Georgia State College
CUTHBERT, Ga - In last week's conference matchup vs. East Georgia State College, the Fighting Tigers split the doubleheader, closing out last week's action. The Fighting Tigers won Game 1, 12-3, and took the loss in Game 2, 10-0.
Game 1
Following their intense matchup the day prior, the Fighting Tigers were eager to bounce back from their 7-8 loss on Tuesday, March 31 at the hands of the Bobcats.
Game 1 got off to a tough start as East Georgia got out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to two bases-loaded walks. Following a quiet few innings as RHP Nic Sloane dialed in for four consecutive scoreless innings, Andrew posted their first run of the game off a throwing error to cut the Bobcats lead to one, 2-1. They would go on to tie the game at 2-2 thanks to a sacrifice fly from Athony Kradzinski.
Andrew went on to take the lead off a Haiden Schultz RBI double and would maintain the lead for the remainder of the game. Game 1 was highlighted by a Colin Mendiola grand slam, marking his second home run of the season.
Game 2
Following a dominant Game 1 win, the Fighting Tigers were hoping they could carry that momentum into Friday's finale. However, Andrew ended the game with just two hits to go along with an uncharacteristic three errors.
The lone hits came from reliable sluggers 3B Cameron Kenney and RF Jose Massanet, who picked up the lone XBH as he logged his fourth double of the season. Through 29 games played, Massanet is batting .364 (28-for-77) with 5 HR, 20 RBI and 4 SB. Massanet, Kenney and DH Haiden Schultz are currently tied for the team lead in home runs with five apiece.
Kenney currently leads the Fighting Tigers with a .408 (42-for-103) average and 27 RBI on the year.
Andrew College returns to action on Tuesday, April 7, against South Georgia State College.
