Grant, Schultz Lead Offensive Surge in 8-6 Win Over CVCC
CUTHBERT, Ga - In a rematch against Chattahoochee Valley Community College, the Andrew Fighting Tigers secured an 8-6 victory, ending their two-game skid.
Their previous two defeats came at the hands of Chattahoochee Valley, so the Fighting Tigers were eager for redemption against their Alabama neighbors. The story of Thursday's game was offense. Andrew had four players record multi-hit performances, including CF Anthony Grant, who delivered a four-hit, 2 RBI outing. Grant tallied 2 XBH with two doubles and scored two runs during his standout performance.
Alongside Grant was DH Haiden Schultz out of the six spot. Schultz is batting .321 (9-for-28) on the season and has been a consistent force at the plate. However, he had not yet showcased his game-changing power. That changed Thursday evening as he went 2-for-4 with a 2B, RBI, three runs scored and his first home run of the season. The contest also marked his first multi-extra-base-hit game of the year.
Schultz and Grant were two of four Fighting Tigers to log multiple hits. The other two were 3B Cameron Kenney (2-for-3, RBI, BB) and RF Anthony Kradzinski (2-for-4, 2B, BB, 2R, SB).
Despite allowing four runs in the opening frame to the Pirates, the Fighting Tigers responded with six unanswered runs en route to the win. Their offensive surge proved to be the first key to victory. In total, Andrew tallied 6 XBH, 4 SB, and saw eight of nine starters reach base, with seven recording hits. The second key was the bullpen.
RHP Nicholas Sloane picked up the win, improving to 2-1 on the season. He allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out three over 3.2 IP.
The Fighting Tigers return to action Wednesday, Feb. 25, for a home doubleheader against Point University JV. The games were originally scheduled for Monday, Feb. 16, but were postponed due to weather conditions.
Andrew College is a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I school located in Cuthbert, Georgia. The Fighting Tigers sponsor 14 sports and compete in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. Andrew College will move to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, effective July 1, 2026.
