Lady Tigers Remain Undefeated at Jinks Gymnasium
CUTHBERT, Ga. - In a tough conference matchup against Southern Crescent Technical College, the Lady Tigers earned a 62-54 victory to remain undefeated at Jinks Gymnasium.
Andrew College was led in scoring by sophomore guard Braniya Baker, who finished with 11 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists. Her backcourt partner, Jasmyn Thomas, added six points, but it was her all-around play that helped secure the win. Thomas finished with 11 rebounds, eight assists and one steal to round out Saturday afternoon's performance.
From the opening tip, the Tigers controlled the game, building a 33-17 halftime advantage largely due to their defensive effort. Through their stifling defense all 10 Fighting Tigers recorded at least one steal in Saturday's matchup.
Despite the early lead, a lack of production from beyond the arc allowed Southern Crescent to close the gap in the second half, trimming the Andrew College lead to eight points in the fourth quarter. Despite playing with just six available players, Southern Crescent remained competitive behind Jade Gamory and Hajar Baldwin-Toles. Through the first half the Southern Crescent duo only scored a combined eight points.
However, Gamory finished the game with 13 points, including two timely 3-pointers that cut the Tigers' lead to single digits. Baldwin-Toles went on to post a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Despite the strong showing from its conference opponent, Andrew College stayed composed throughout the final stretch. All 10 Lady Tigers who entered the game scored, including eight who made at least two field goals.
The Lady Tigers return to action Monday, Jan. 12, against Southern Union State Community College at 6 p.m. It will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams after Andrew College earned a 69-54 win on Dec. 11.
