Andrew College Student-Athlete Spotlight: Jazmyn Lang
CUTHBERT, Ga - The Andrew College Student-Athlete spotlight was created to highlight the achievements of our Fighting Tigers both on and off the field. These students represent the best that Andrew College has to offer as athletes as well as highlight their efforts on campus and in the Cuthbert community.
This week's student-athlete is a prime example of these qualities and since arriving on campus, she has demonstrated her dedication as an athlete while showcasing her skills as a student-leader. This week's spotlight belongs to none other than Jazmyn Lang, President of the Student Government Association and Outfielder for the Andrew College Softball Team.
"Being SGA President means that you are the face and voice of the students, serving as a conduit between the students and administration," said Dean of Students and Vice President of Student Affairs Chicquan L. Cannon. "The SGA President helps set the tone for the student body, embodying servant leadership while serving as a role model and a leader. Jazmyn has represented all of this so far."
Lang hails from Mobile, Ala., and attended McGill Toolen Catholic High School before choosing Andrew College to continue her athletic and educational career. She is currently majoring in biological health sciences, where she has excelled on all fronts. Lang was recently named to the Fall 2025 Dean's List, which recognizes students who earn a 3.5 GPA or higher. That honor comes as no surprise, as she was also awarded the Pitts Scholarship, a full academic scholarship recognizing high-achieving high school students with a minimum 3.5 GPA and who have displayed a record of leadership and service to school, community or church.
At Andrew College, Lang is known for her welcoming personality and natural drive to make students feel included while impacting positive change across the student body.
"Because I'm a naturally outgoing person, it doesn't take much for me to want to participate," Lang said. "Last year, Dean Cannon noticed I was always participating in different events, and I even did a comedy act as Steve Harvey in the talent show. When talking to Dean Cannon, he noticed several people either knew me or mentioned me by name, so he suggested I run for president of the SGA."
While one adjective may not fully capture the scope of her abilities, Lang's versatility extends well beyond the classroom. At Andrew, she currently serves as SGA president and has also worked as a resident assistant and tutor in algebra and writing, all while competing as a student-athlete.
"I feel that being student body president has connected me with the students, and it's important for me to get their input on things happening at Andrew, especially knowing what I wanted as a freshman," Lang said. "Being in this position allows me to grow, make connections and become a better student and person."
Lang's versatility and drive for excellence also translate onto the softball field.
Lang currently plays all three outfield positions and has worked her way to an everyday starter for the Lady Tigers softball team. Following a tough freshman year as the team was limited due to number of players and roster depth, Lang has emerged as a true leader in the dugout as she begins her sophomore campaign.
Lang is one of three sophomores on this year's team and came into this season eager for the next chapter of her softball career. A career that she initially thought was going to end following her breakout season at MTC. However, after showcasing her talents in a Fighting Tigers softball practice she signed and brought her talents to Cuthbert.
Since arriving at Andrew College, Lang has exemplified excellence in every arena, whether through student leadership, on the diamond or in her daily interactions with classmates and faculty.
As Andrew College continues to grow, students like Lang stand out not because they are rare, but because the impact they make leaves a lasting legacy.
"One thing I would tell students is not to be afraid to put your voice out there," Lang said. "Don't let anyone dim your light or your opinion because your voice matters."
"When thinking of a quote that reminds me of Jazmyn, I wanted to be sure it reflected the light I see in her.'As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same,'" said Dean Cannon. "Jazmyn's light is compassionate, encouraging and reassuring, and it draws students to her. Through her leadership, she has created a space where students feel seen and valued."
Upon graduation, Lang plans to continue her academic journey in behavioral health sciences. She has several options for her next step but ultimately hopes to attend medical school and pursue a career in pediatric hospice medicine. As she continues her sophomore year, Andrew College looks forward to watching her next chapter unfold.
