Andrew College Athletics Welcomes Nick Trist as Head Flag Football Coach
CUTHBERT, Ga – Andrew College Athletics welcomes Nick Trist as the department's newly appointed Head Flag Football Coach. Athletic Director and Head Men's Basketball Coach Brian Skortz announced the hiring Feb. 1.
Hailing from Savannah, Georgia, Trist brings a wealth of knowledge as both a coach and competitor. He comes to Andrew College after spending the previous six years at Savannah State University, where he most recently served as Offensive Coordinator. During his tenure at Savannah State, Trist held roles as Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.
For Trist, the opportunity at Andrew College not only allows him to build a program from the ground up, but also to join an athletics department committed to growth and expanded opportunities for its student-athletes.
"I think being able to start the program from the ground up is what attracted me to the job because you have the chance to set the culture and establish your program," said Trist. "Also, after having a few practices under my belt, the girls are great. We have some athletes out there, so I'm ready for the season."
Prior to his time at Savannah State, Trist served as Offensive Coordinator at Middle Georgia State University. During his tenure, the program captured the 2015 NCFA National Championship after defeating Miami (Ohio), 33-26. Trist later joined Crisp County High School and Palmetto Prep Postgraduate Academy in 2017, experiences that eventually led to his role as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach at Allen University.
"When I started at Allen University, that team was just starting," said Trist. "It was a brand-new program, and that experience helped me a lot, especially as I build the program here."
A Savannah native, Trist returned to Savannah State following years away from home in various coaching roles, allowing him to further focus on his passion for developing the next generation of student-athletes. While Trist has extensive experience on the gridiron, coaching flag football presents a new challenge that he welcomes.
"It's a unique adjustment coaching flag football," said Trist. "In 2024, Jhaydon Sullivan led the country in passing efficiency while I was the Quarterbacks Coach at Savannah State, so we know a lot about throwing the ball. That should help with the transition."
Trist graduated from Gordon State University with a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies. While he initially aspired to work in the media industry, he ultimately chose to pursue his passion for coaching.
"I always knew I wanted to coach football," said Trist. "Originally, I was going to work in media, but that just pushed me toward what I truly wanted to do, which was coach. In my senior year of college, I actually got a job with the club football team."
Having once been in the shoes of his student-athletes, Trist understands the responsibility of his role and the lasting impact he can have on their lives. A multi-sport athlete, Trist competed in baseball, basketball and football at Bible Baptist School and Groves High School before playing collegiate basketball at Boyce Christian College.
"I played everything. Tennis, golf, track, football, baseball and basketball," said Trist. "If the sport was offered and allowed me to double dip, I was there. There is nothing I'd rather do with my time."
As Trist joins the Andrew College family, time will be of the essence. The Fighting Tigers' first game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7, against Brewton-Parker, followed by a matchup with LaGrange College.
Despite the quick turnaround, Trist is no stranger to competition and from his championship runs, he clearly thrives under pressure.
With championship pedigree and a wealth of experience, the Trist era has officially begun in Cuthbert, and the Fighting Tigers family is excited to see how the Lady Tigers compete during the 2026 season.
Andrew College is a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I school located in Cuthbert, Georgia. The Fighting Tigers sponsor 14 sports and compete in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. Andrew College will move to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, effective July 1, 2026.
